His research interests include primarily geometry and geometric applications in theoretical physics, particularly in quantum field theory. He has published two monographs in symmetries in physics and conformal field theory. In addition, he is also interested in applications of geometry to computer graphics and he has recently turned his attention to game theory (interactive decision theory) and its applications in economics and biology.
From 1993 to 2003 he administrated the "Graduiertenkolleg" Mathematik im Bereich ihrer Wechselwirkung mit der Physik.
Martin Schottenloher is active outside the university and supports the transfer of technology, e.g. in computer graphics, economics or technical applications of mathematics.
